Full Professor in Law, Chief of Institute Georgian, German and International Criminal Law Institute
In 2003-2009 Bachana Jishkariani was studying at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, on the law faculty, and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Later, he earned Master’s degree in law at Munich University. In 2012, under the guidance of Professor Helmut Satzger, at the same university and on the same faculty, he defended his doctoral thesis about European criminal law. While at Munich University, he was lecturing courses about German criminal law and public law, and was also working at a law company called Becker Büttner Held Munich, a local law firm, as a law clerk.
Since 2021, Bachana Jishkariani became full Professor in criminal law, and from 2017, he is the Head of the Criminal Law Department at the University of Georgia. He lectures criminal law on Georgian and German languages at Tbilisi State University and other universities.
In addition, he was a counsel and expert at law company “House of Law,” a local law firm in Tbilisi. He has published articles and monographs about Georgian, German, European and international criminal law. Bachana Jishkariani has received educational and research scholarships, including scholarships from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst), Max Planck Society, Volkswagen Foundation and Friedrich Naumann’s Foundation. He has been an invited speaker for conferences at the Universities in Cologne, Jena, Munich, Regensburg and also at Max Planck’s Institute for International Criminal Law in Freiburg.
