Spring School at the Lopota

A joint project - Spring School “Criminal Law and Human Rights” of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Institute of Georgian, German and International Criminal Law, was held at the Lopota, Kakheti on 26-28 March 2021. The project discussed the urgent issues of Criminal Law, such as state intervention into personal liberty; Modern Georgian criminal policy - liberalization or tightening?; Constitutional and criminal scope of property rights; criminal law and the purposes of punishment – individual responsibility and outer factors committing a crime; The importance of personal autonomy on the example of the legality of suicide assistance according to the decision of the German Federal Constitutional Court; Human life as a legal good; Pandemic and the Right to Freedom - An Analysis of the Practice of the Constitutional Court; Criminal protection of women's rights; COVID-19 as a challenge in Georgian law and practice. The lectures were lead by the head of the school: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bachana Jishkariani, LL.M. (Munich) and invited lecturers: Mario Schütze (Jena, Tbilisi), Guram Imnadze (Center for Human Rights Education and Monitoring) and Nino Tsatsiashvili (Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia). Law students from different universities of Georgia participated in the event.
